Heavy! 28 kinds of tea geographical indication products are included in the protection list of the European Geographical Indication Agreement
On July 20, local time, the Council of the European Union made a decision authorizing the official signing of the China-EU Geographical Indication Agreement. 100 European GI products in China and 100 Chinese GI products in the EU will be protected. According to the terms of the agreement, 28 tea products protected by geographical indications were included in the first batch of protection lists; four years later, the scope of the agreement will be expanded to 175 products protected by geographical indications of both parties, including 31 products protected by geographical indications of tea.

The "Agreement" will provide a high level of protection for the geographical indication products of both parties, effectively prevent counterfeit geographical indication products, and provide a strong guarantee for Chinese tea products to enter the EU market and improve market visibility. According to the terms of the agreement, relevant Chinese products have the right to use the official EU certification mark, which is conducive to gaining the recognition of EU consumers and further promoting the export of Chinese tea to Europe.
