What kind of paper are tea bags made of?

Tea bags are made of filter paper or non-woven fabric.
Tea bags, as the name suggests, are tea leaves wrapped in paper or cloth, which can be stored for a long time, and are washed with water. Many tea bags contain mostly tea leaves, but there are also some brands that will launch more high-end tea bags.
Origin
New York tea merchant Thomas Sullivan (Thomas Sullivan) often sent samples of tea to potential customers. In order to reduce the cost, he thought of a way, that is to pack a little loose tea leaves in several small silk bags. At that time, some customers who had never made tea before received those silk bags, because they were not very clear about the procedure of making tea, they often threw these silk bags into the boiling water with a bang. But gradually, people found that the tea packaged in this way is convenient and easy to use, and gradually formed the habit of using small bags to pack tea. Someone suggested to him that the silk bag was too fine, so he switched to cotton gauze and officially sold it commercially. In 1903, Sullivan applied for a patent for tea bags, and by 1920, tea bags were widely used in the American catering industry.
The original tea bags used silk bags, which cost a lot. Later, Boston businessman William Hermanson (William Hermanson) invented a heat-resistant paper fiber tea bag, which is closer to modern tea bags in material. At the beginning, these American tea bags were all in the shape of a single capsule. Due to the simple form, the packaging machinery was relatively simple. When this type of tea bag was put into water, the tea leaves would be concentrated in the tea bag, and the brewing speed was very slow. Later, someone put tea into a double-vesicle tea bag folded into a W shape in the middle, and found that it could speed up the brewing of tea in hot water. In 1949, Teepack Company of Germany produced the world's first fully automatic double-capsule tea bag packaging machine with such a concept. Since then, this kind of packaging has become popular in Europe, and some old tea merchants such as twinning and Whittard mostly use this kind of packaging.
Tea bags were introduced to the UK in 1953 by Joseph Tetley after decades of thriving in the US market.
